Models of Awesome Supermachines from Sci-Fi Racing Anime Film “REDLINE”

Again, from Gigazine:
Upcoming anime film Redline written by Katsuhito Ishii(Shark Skin Man and Peach Hip Girl, The Taste of Tea) and directed by Takeshi Koike(The Animatrix: World Record) was featured at Tohokushinsha's booth in TAF2010.

Set in a distance future where multi-wheeled flying air-cars replaced today's four-wheel vehicle, the story follows the intertwined journeys of competitors in the deadliest car-racing game in the universe, the "Redline" game held once every five years. Models of the supermachines were on display at the booth.

Evangelion Bottled Water shaped like Asuka and Ayanami’s plug suit

From Gigazine:

Mokku of the popular Hello Kitty Bottled Water is to release new Evangelion-themed products in their "Body Water" line of mineral water in bottles shaped like female torso.

The bottle design will be based on Asuka Langley and Rei Ayanami's plug suits from the movie Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance.

Read on for details and pics.

"BODY WATER Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance" will be available from this April at convenience stores and rest stops on highways in Japan. The mineral water is from Satsuma District, Kagoshima. 280ml per bottle, 368 yen (about $3.90).
 These look really cool, but according to a Japanese tweep of mine, they aren't in stores quite yet. ^^;

Apparently I Buy Lots of Capcom Stuff / 沢山カプコングッズを買ってんだ

I love saving these little stickers that come on packages that are pretty much unique to Japan. They attach them to their products as "official markings" showing that the company made it and it's not some Chinese/Hong Kong bootleg product. (Which is pretty ironic since most of the legit products are actually made in China) They used to come on eeeeeeeverything, in fact a few years ago in like 2007 I got a box of Dragon Quest figures and each individual one had a "Dragon Quest 20th Anniversary" sticker on it in the shape of a little shield. Now, though, if you buy a large box with like 12 blind box figures or whatever, only the large box comes with a sticker on it. Just like in the last few years they've switched to plastic ballchains on keychain figures/gashapon, as opposed to metal ones. I guess the profit margin was just too thin to include real metal. =P

Oh, I also love the little Pac-man guy in the choking warnings, so I stick him on stuff, too. =P Thank you for peering into my strange little world. ^^;

K-OFF!

I liked my comment about K-ON! on Kotaku so much I decided to post it here, too.

Pure crap. Even loli artists hate this shit:

The more astute followers of Japanese subcultural trends have long realized that there is an ever-widening schism between old-school "otaku" and new-school "moé" devotees. But what does it mean for modern moé when even a pro degenerate -- and lolicon  pioneer -- like manga artist Hideo Azuma has this to say about it? You'd have expected that if anyone could bridge the eras, it would be someone like him, but no dice. (For those not in the know, Azuma is something like Japan's R. Crumb, only without the ability to catch a break and actually get himself laid.)

"I watched [moé staple anime] 'K-On!' It was empty. It was nothing. The jokes made no sense. It didn't even have any eroticism, any grotesquerie. Just the mildest, faintest hint of fetishism. Are the people who made it and the people who watch it that unable to cope with reality? It just feels gross -- kind of like maid cafes, now that I think of it."

-From Matt Alt's AltJapan website.

I couldn't have summed it up better myself. Otaku get all bent over this tripe so that figure companies can make endless variations of these same characters over and over so lonely boys can blow their whole paycheck on them but then bitch about how a real woman would take all of their money, cough. I mean, really, is THIS what society has come to? I approve of hardcore stuff if all you're seeking is a diversion to get off on. Because that's what it is - you're not building a relationship, you want stimuli so you can perform a biological function. On the other hand, how the hell is one able to make a "relationship" with a two-dimensional drawing and "get to know her" or whatever? It's just strange, there's no depth, and anyone who pretends that there is, is just... creepy. It's one thing to appreciate art or a story or any component of the thing, but this has clearly been designed to take advantage of that already-captive male audience for which loneliness is a way of life. But hey, I guess if they make money and otaku doodz can keep deluding themselves into thinking that 2-D drawings - drawn by a man more often than not - then no harm done, right? Well, other than the potential destruction of a once creative medium that has been reduced to panty shot slips, lame jokes and average girls filling the role typically occupied by "interesting characters" because the target audience is too lame to actually go out and talk to one.

Sketch #1 - From Bleach

A sketch I did at work 3 or 4 years ago of a character from Bleach - she was from Hueco Mundo arc but I forget her name. I know it had something to do with bees or something. Anyway, I drew and inked it (in various pens and markers if you look closely ><) and wanted to share.
